During an English class, our teacher introduced fruits as the topic. She held up several large cards, each displaying a fruit on one side and its English and Chinese names on the other. The fruits included pineapple, mango, banana, peach, pear, apple, and watermelon. After teaching us, she instructed us to use these cards in an engaging game.
She began by calling a few students to the front. She flipped the cards over and gave each student a card without showing it to them. Then, one by one, these students took turns guessing the fruit in English. Their query was always the same: "Is it a pear?" The rest of us would respond "yes" or "no." Each student had five chances to guess, and we had learned over a dozen fruit words.
The first student asked, "Is it grapes?" and the class responded loudly, "No!" "Banana?" "No!" "Peach?" "No!"... After five attempts, he had guessed incorrectly each time. We informed him, "It's a mango."
The second student guessed incorrectly on all previous attempts and felt tense on his last chance. He asked, "Is it a pineapple?" The entire class shouted in surprise, "Yes!" It turned out he guessed correctly on the final try.
The third student also failed to guess correctly after five attempts...
One by one, students took their turns. Once everyone had guessed, the student who correctly identified the fruit won the game.
