There are more and more college graduates choose to continue their tertiary education nowadays. At their graduation, they take the entrance examinations for the postgraduate studies, and try to earn higher degrees. This situation has both its pros and cons.

The phenomenon that more students are willing to earn higher degrees is definitely a good sign for the economy and for the future of the country. Scientific and technological developments, social evolution, understandings towards nature and history are all progressing. They need people of deeper studies to carry further. Traditional ideas in many areas are becoming obsolete and the society wants fresh thoughts to remodel it, and make it a better environment for human beings. All these will be possible only based on further studies, researches and more specialized work, rather than relying on the basic disciplines of past knowledge.

On the other hand, it also reflects a trend in which the undergraduates have intense competition in the employment market. Increasing numbers of them are unable to find a job of their studies at the graduation, and have to give up what they have learned and go into other professions only to be surviving. This is a huge waste of the national education resources, particularly considering that four years ago these students took the positions in the colleges and deprived their competitors' chance of entering tertiary educations. No winners amongst them all, the colleges, the undergradtates, and those "failed" competitors, as the change into other areas happen.

One very likely scenario is that the problem of intense competition is to be deferred rather than solved, i.e. that it is carried onto the next level. If all the Bachelors are moving into master studies, then the job position competition may temporarily be calmed now, but start again in three years when they are graduating as Masters, or five years later as Doctors.

你为什么要考研？

当年一心就要考清华，就当让自己彻底死心，就考这一次，考不上就认命，为此，还跟当时的对象分了手，大概是受不了那个时候喜怒无常压力大的我吧。结果还是失败了，差4分进复试，到现在午夜梦回的时候我都觉得遗憾。不过人生从来不缺遗憾，至少我做到了在追求时全力以赴，虽然失败了，我也要潇洒转身，通过其他途径努力给自己争取更多的选择权。现在的我边工作边刷托福考GRE，准备攒攒钱去国外深造。

生活充满了无限可能

高考失利，一度以为自己智商有问题，考研的时候疯狂复习，每天图书馆开门就进去，关门才出来，每周只休息半天打打游戏，坚持了近五个月，以初试第一的成绩考上了研究生。后来因为读研，认识了现在的博导，又顺利考上博士，目前体育学博士在读。如果当初没有读研，我可能会在一所小学当普通的体育老师，不像现在这样，生活充满了无限可能，永远期待即将发生的事情。

专科的逆袭

我是专科毕业两年后辞职考研的，跨学校，跨专业，什么都跨。专科毕业后忍受不了倒夜班的工人生活，带着工作两年少得可怜的积蓄在外边租了房子，瞒着父母，开始复习考研。没有家人和朋友的支持，一个人孤独前行，一点安全感都没有，积蓄越来越少，压力越来越大。有一次实在忍不住，和一个好友倾诉，又嚎啕大哭了一次。就这样坚持了半年，终于考完了，整个人都虚脱了，积蓄花得一干二净，才跟父母坦白。如愿考上研后，认识了现在的妻子，现在工作三年了，在高中当老师，一年到手28万左右。

以上，是一些曾经执意考研的人，他们或多或少也会有遗憾，但若没有当初的坚持，没有考研会成为他们更大的遗憾。我很喜欢上面的一句话：“一旦见过优秀的人，你就无法忍受自己的平庸。”哪怕我们暂时达不到那样优秀的程度，至少从今天开始，我们每天都在努力让自己变得更好，有些梦想踮起脚还是能够到的。考研的公平在于，无论你是谁，你都有无限种可能，好或坏，全取决于你自己。

As the day of graduation draws near,college students have to make decisions about their future life.Whether one wants to become a postgraduate or look for a job largely depends on one's personal interests.
For those who are eager to become economically independent and to put into practice what they have learned in college,taking a job will be both satisfying and rewarding.For years,they have been using their parents' money to support their education-and not without a sense of guilt.Moreover,at many times during their study,they must have been embarrassed by the lack of money or the guilty feeling of spengding their parents' money on “luxuries”.Getting established as a bread-winner after graduation is their main desire.
Those,who want to take advantage of the favorable conditions in college,however,will try to enroll in graduate programs.For them,a Master's degree or even a Doctoral degree represents a much more ambitious goal than a bachelor's degree.In the same way,their lifetime success and interest lies more in academic achievements than in making money.
As far as I am concerned,getting a higher degree has long been my dream.This is based on my belief that I should do more research and learn more while I am still young.
